MetaGene donates instrument to Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA)

In recognition of the passion, commitment and continued success at the Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA), in the field of cancer research, MetaGene donated a new Biocare Medical ONCORE Pro X instrument (valued $250,000) .
In July 2024 the Melanoma Institute Australia’s Translational Research Group (MTRG) undertook a project with MetaGene Pty Ltd, Australia, and Biocare Medical LLC, USA, to develop fully automated tissue multiplex immunofluorescent panels on the ONCORE Pro X instrument. The team tested multiplex immunofluorescent panels that can detect seven immuno-oncology markers in one patient sample with the goal of gaining an increased understanding of the body’s immune response.
Fast forward to 2026 and the ONCORE Pro X instrument is now a core component of the MIA Personalised Immunotherapy Platform (PIP), a tool developed by Melanoma Institute Australia at their Sydney laboratory to ensure advanced melanoma patients receive effective treatment the first time, based on genetics and tumour biology.
Richard Holder, founder and Managing Director of MetaGene, stated "we've been collaborating with Associate Professor James Wilmott and the team at MIA for 10 years and I believe that this donation will allow MIA to accept additional projects, produce faster results and in combination with the previously acquired knowledge, offer oncologists additional data that could help to improve patient treatment outcomes".
MetaGene will be supporting and attending the Melanoma Institute Research Retreat in Sydney on Wednesday 19 August and we look forward to learning about the future direction of translational research and discussing how the ONCORE Pro X will play an important role in this journey.
